Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters responded to Shanes Way in Roscoe for a house fire on Sept. 16 at 1:25pm. It was a warm, windy day, and in the country with no hydrants. The fire started in the back of the house and had traveled into the house as well as up the back wall, and was already in the attic when units arrived. The fire would go to a MABAS Box 12 to the 5th Alarm as well as an EMS Box 13 to the 2nd Alarm. 23 area departments responded to the MABAS request to help on scene as well as man the department's three fire stations. 14 Tenders, including the departments two, shuttled water from the nearest water hydrant at the Roscoe Middle School. Chief Shoevlin says," I express my sincerest gratitude to all the HRFD members along with all of our neighboring departments that responded to assist us. All firefighters involved worked tirelessly in a difficult situation. It is unfortunate for the loss this family suffered, however no one was injured and all firefighters went home safely. I am proud of the work that my members and the members of all the departments that assisted did. The fire was accidental and is still under investigation."
