Captain Mike Drost is in charge the Fire Investigation Division. Mike joined the department in January of 1989. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1994 and to Captain in 2000. He was an EMT from 1991-1994.

He is State Certified Firefighter III, Hazardous Materials OPs, and Fire Investigator I, II, & III. He has taken advanced classes in Origin & Cause with the Dept of Treasury ATF. He holds certificates and has participated in numerous tested fire investigation related classes and seminars.

Mike has also taken classes in Auto Extrication, Helicopter, Building & Safety Inspector, Dispatch, and is a Fire Apparatus Engineer.

Mike testified in an Arson case where the defendant was convicted of arson. He received the Roscoe VFW Firefighter of the Year Award in 1998. And in 2004, Mike received a certificate of honor from the Office of Illinois State Fire Marshal for his heroism in saving a man from a burning car inside a garage with two other firefighters.

Mike also served five years with North Park Fire in the 70’s. Mike is owner of M. Drost Enterprises - Pest Elimination and also served in the US Army as a helicopter repairman, door gunner, and construction engineer . He also served a tour in Vietnam.


Captain John Bergeron is the department's Medical Coordinator. John joined the department as a cadet in 1981 and became a firefighter in 1983. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1992 and to Captain February 4, 2006.

John became an EMT-A in 1984 and an EMT-Paramedic in 1988. John is State Certified as Firefighter II and Hazmat Ops, Instructor I, Management 1 & II, and Fire Officer I. John has also attended numerous medical and fire classes and is an apparatus engineer.He also holds certificates in Roadway Extrication. John currently sits on the Region 1 Trauma advisory commitee.

He received the Roscoe VFW Firefighter of the Year Award in 1991. John received the NIEMS Paramedic of the Year in 1997. John is a Paramedic for OSF Lifeline Ambulance.


Acting Captain Tim Bergeron joined the department in 1992. He was promoted to Lieutenant on April 18, 2005. Tim was promoted to Captain on February 9, 2008.

Tim became an EMT-B in 1993. He became an EMT-Paramedic in 1997. In 2007 he gave up his paramedic license and is currently a EMT-B.

He is State Certified FFII, Fire Service Instructor I, Haz-Mat Awareness, Fire Apparatus Engineer, and is a CPR Instructor. He also has attended several medical and fire classes.

Tim received the department's 2007 Good Service Award. Tim served the Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters Association as Vice President for 2 years and as Secretary for 2 terms. He works as a machinist at Woodward Governor since Jan 1996.


 

Acting Captain Jay Alms joined the department in 1991. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999 and to Acting Captain on June 6. He became an EMT in 1991 and then an EMT-Paramedic in October of 1994. He received the Loves Park VFW Firefighter of the Year in 1997 and the NIEMS Paramedic of the Year.

Jay is State Certified Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Awareness. October 21, 1990, Jay certified as a PADI Open Water Diver and November 04, 1990 as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver. He also served eight years as the Association’s Treasurer and Secretary. Jay is a Paramedic for OSF Lifeline Ambulance.

 


 

Captain Bill Sabin is in charge of the Fire Prevention personnel. Bill joined the Fire Prevention team in 1993 and was promoted to Lieutenant of the Fire Prevention Division on January 13, 2001 and to Captain on December 12, 2004.

Bill received a Recognition Award for Achievement in Fire Prevention, Fire Safety, and Life Safety from the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association in 2001 and again in 2005.

Bill has attended numerous schools and classes on Fire prevention such as Underwriters Laboratory’s Fire System Certification in 1997, 5-6 weeks of NFPA Fire Codes, OSHA classes, Amusement Ride Safety, and other Fire Safety classes. Bill is also on the Fire Investigation team and has taken numerous classes on fire investigation including Origin & Cause, Electric Fires, and Profiling. Bill also completed over 23 hours for basic firefighting plus classes in Hurst Tools, Helicopter Safety, Defensive Driving and helps out during the days with driving fire apparatus.

Bill is a retired commercial air conditioning serviceman.
