Deputy Chief Richard "Ike" Schoonover joined the department Dec 7, 1977 as a mechanic. Richard has been in charge of maintaining Harlem-Roscoe Fire apparatus ever since. He was promoted to Lt. then Captain, and in 1995 to Deputy Chief. He received the Loves Park VFW Firefighter of the Year Award in 1988.

Richard is State Certified Firefighter II and Hazmat Awareness. He was an EMT-A from 1984 to 1990. He has attended numerous classes and trainings while on the department. He also held an IL State ERT License from 1982 until road rescue was put under the Fire Marshall’s Office. He has attained 40 credit hours of basic engineer at University of Wisconsin extension school in Janesville, 60 credit hours of business at Rock Valley College Rockford, and has attended U Of WI certified Service Management School.

Richard served in the US Army from Oct 1952 thru Nov 1957 and left the service as staff Sgt in charge of radio-radar repair group. He then worked for a road construction company from January 1958 to December 1967. He was responsible for a crushing crew and crusher maintenance. He held a Class 4 Wisconsin State explosive license for 12 years and was responsible for drilling and blasting of a rock quarry. He then worked for Rockford Clutch Div of Borg Warner Corp from January 1968 until he retired in September of 1999. He spent 2 years as Test Tech, 2 years as an Engineer, 14 years as a Service & Warranty manager, and 13 years as a field service engine and heavy equipment and industrial drives.

Deputy Chief John Presley is the department's Training Coordinator. John joined the department in January 1982. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987, to Captain in 1993, and to Deputy Chief on September 12, 2004. He became an EMT in the spring of 1983, and EMT-I in 1988, and an EMT-P in 1991.

He holds an Associates Degree in Applied Fire Science, is State Certified as Firefighter III, Hazmat Materials Operations, Juvenile Fire Setters Interventionist, Hazmat Incident Command, and Instructor II. He holds certificates in Fire Officer II, Fire Tactics & Equipment Fire Services, and Emergency Medical and Fire Service Dispatch and numerous more.

He received the Roscoe VFW Firefighter of the Year in 1988 and the Loves Park Firefighter of the Year in 1999. John works as a Paramedic for OSF Lifeline Ambulance.

 

 

Deputy Chief Kirk Wilson is the department's Health & Safety Officer. Kirk joined the department in 1983 as a cadet. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1994, to Captain in 1998, and to Deputy Chief on September 12, 2004. He became an EMT and then an EMT-Paramedic in 1988.

He holds an Associates Degree in Applied Fire Science and is State Certified as Firefighter III, Hazmat Ops, Instructor 1, Roadway Extrication, and is a Fire Apparatus Engineer. Kirk attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland in 1999 and completed classes in Command and Control of Multi Alarm Incidents, Incident Safety Officer, Leadership I, and Command Tactics. Kirk holds certificates of training in Fire Tactics, Management I, Introduction to Fire Protection, and numerous others.

Kirk received the Roscoe VFW Firefighter of the Year Award in 1988 and the Loves Park VFW Firefighter of the Year Award in 1998. Kirk is a Paramedic for OSF Lifeline Ambulance.
